National Disability Carers Survey

Help us build better evidence about the lives of disability carers

We are developing the National Disability Carers Survey, a new research project designed to collect data directly from people who care for disabled family members.

We want to understand how caring affects different parts of carers' lives, including health and wellbeing, work, income, education, access to support, relationships and opportunities beyond caring.

But we also want to understand why these differences exist. The survey is being designed as a research project, with questions that will allow us to study how carers' experiences vary across families, circumstances, services and policies.

Why are we doing this?

Many important aspects of disability caring are still difficult to see in existing data. Carers know what happens in their own lives. Research can bring thousands of those experiences together, identify wider patterns and investigate the factors behind them.

The findings will contribute to the Initiative's academic research and will also be published in an accessible policy report so carers can see what the data tells us and what it could mean for policy.

Are you a disability carer?

The survey is currently being developed, and we are inviting carers to register their interest in taking part.

By registering, you can ask to be contacted when the survey opens. We may also invite interested carers to help us test the survey before launch and tell us whether we are asking the right questions.
